Accoya®, the world-leading modified wood, has been used to transform a family garden in Norway into a stunning ‘secret oasis’.
Located in the historic old town Bergen, Norway the family with the help of Tv2 Norway DIY show’s outdoor architect Kjersti Bergesen, were inspired to turn their outdoor living space into a striking and highly functional ‘secret garden’.
This was achieved by converting the upper and lower decks into an outdoor living room and dining room, featuring trendy café style tables and chairs as well as a stylish chandelier in the ground floor dining space.
The first floor patio features a beautifully decorated plant wall complimented by Accoya decking. A brand new staircase was installed using Accoya wood to connect the two living spaces. To achieve this several planks of Accoya were used in the construction of the steps, which were vertically spaced allowing water to drain away easily, preventing the surface from becoming slippery underfoot. Accoya was also used in the construction of the white fencing surrounding the outdoor space.
Accoya is ideal for this challenging environment given its exceptionally high levels of durability and resistance and combined with its guarantee against rot above ground for 50 years and in fresh water or with soil for 25 years.
Commenting on the renovation project, Kjersti said: “Accoya is widely used in construction projects across Norway due to its superior levels of durability and resistance against harsh weather conditions. We selected Accoya decking as it exceeded our requirements to create a garden space that is both eco-friendly yet aesthetically pleasing to the eye.”
Marc Michels at Solvay Acetow said; “The outdoor ‘secret oasis’ is visually stunning. It’s wonderful to see Accoya wood being used in such a creative way to transform an outdoor space into an impressive external living area. The use of Accoya has satisfied the owner’s requirement for a hardy yet stylish outdoor living space and this project really shows why Accoya outshines its competitor wood products.”
